We Continue Our Support for Two Important Arts Organizations
August 18, 2015
800-CEO-READ is proud to continue our support for Alverno Presents and The Milwaukee Film Festival.
Alverno Presents and Milwaukee Film are two institutions critical to Milwaukee's cultural fabric. As an owner of a Milwaukee-based business, I believe it's important to support the organizations creating the kind of meaningful art experiences that enrich the lives of our employees, and you won't find two greater contributors to Milwaukee's ongoing cultural dialogue than Alverno Presents and Milwaukee Film.
That's a quote directly from our co-owner and CEO, Carol Grossmeyer. We believe that Alverno Presents and Milwaukee Film are the gold standard for Milwaukee Arts. They challenge us. They sometimes enlighten us. They work diligently to be diverse and inclusive instead of paying lip service to diversity. They take risks and sometimes those risks fall flat, but they're willing to take those risks, and that is important (but, quite frankly, they almost never fall flat. They're really, really good at what they do).
We encourage everyone to support these two organizations. If you live in our city, the festival and the Alverno Presents season events are accessible. If you live out of town, check the schedules and plan a trip to Milwaukee.
ABOUT ALVERNO PRESENTS
Alverno Presents' 2014-15 season features internationally recognized artists across multiple disciplines including dance, music, and rock criticism, with two performances that live at the intersection of theater, dance and visual art. Alverno Presents also features two performances curated by local artists as part of Alverno Presents' ongoing initiative and strong belief that Milwaukee musicians deserved to be placed within the larger, international artistic context. The next event in the Alverno Presents season is Global Union on Saturday, September 19th at Humboldt Part in Bay View from Noon until 6:00pm and features musical artists from Niger, Poland, Colombia, and a multi-national hip hop collective. This year's event marks the 10th anniversary of Global Union.

ABOUT THE MILWAUKEE FILM FESTIVAL
The 7th annual Milwaukee Film Festival which takes place from September 25th through October 9th with films screening at five venues throughout Milwaukee. Like in years past, 800-CEO-READ will be sponsoring a film from their Sound Vision program. This year's chosen film is The Glamour & The Squalor, a documentary about Seattle's Marco Collins, "one of the last great rock radio DJs. Collins helped break such artists as Nirvana, Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie and Beck while also rekindling an era of popularity for both punk rock and electronic dance music in America." The film hopes to raise the profile of the social issues of Marriage Equality and drug/alcohol addiction and was recently awarded the Best Documentary Feature at the 2015 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival.
