The 2017 FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award Shortlist
September 29, 2017
The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award.
I'd like to believe that our business book award is the most coveted. I mean, The FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award comes with a £30,000 prize, with £10,000 awarded to each runner-up, so it's probably close, but…
Anyway, the six books still in the running for that other prize, deemed by eight distinguished judges to be "the six most influential business books of 2017," are:
- The Spider Network: The Wild Story of a Math Genius, a Gang of Backstabbing Bankers, and One of the Greatest Scams in Financial History by David Enrich, Custom House
- Janesville: An American Story by Amy Goldstein, Simon & Schuster
- Adaptive Markets: Financial Evolution at the Speed of Thought by Andrew W. Lo, Princeton University Press
- The One Device: The Secret History of the iPhone by Brian Merchant, Little, Brown
- Reset: My Fight for Inclusion and Lasting Change by Ellen Pao, Spiegel & Grau
- The Great Leveler: Violence and the History of Inequality from the Stone Age to the Twenty-First Century by Walter Scheidel, Princeton University Press
This list comes from a longlist of 17 titles, and the competition was fierce. From FT journalist Andrew Hill:
"For the first time in the award’s 12-year history, the judging of the shortlist was taken to a vote, after the panelists were divided on the final selection."
Lionel Barber, FT editor and chair of judges, said: “After an exceptionally robust debate on a wide ranging longlist, we have chosen six titles [that] offer a compelling insight into today’s business trends.”
The winner will be announced on November 6th at a ceremony in New York City. We'll update you here when it is announced.
