The selections for the Marketing & Sales category are:
- Contagious: Why Things Catch On by Jonah Berger, Simon & Schuster
- Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World, HarperBusiness
- QR Codes Kill Kittens: How to Alienate Customers, Dishearten Employees, and Drive Your Business Into the Ground by Scott Stratten, John Wiley & Sons
- True Story: How to Combine Story and Action to Transform Your Business by Ty Montague, Harvard Business Review Press
- Unlabel: Selling You Without Selling Out by Marc Ecko, Touchstone Books
If Dan Pink, the winner in the Sales & Marketing category last year, is right, then To Sell Is Human. Which means there is quite a lot of ground to cover in the scope of this category, since the subject is not limited to salespeople, but all people. These five books are certainly up for the challenge. The edgy and novelistic Unlabel makes it plain: you are a brand, and as such, you need to learn how to market yourself. And you can best market yourself if you develop your ability to tell stories, authentic and universally appealing stories, which you can do by reading True Story. But how do you get customers to listen when anyone and everyone is telling their one of a kind story? There's no one better to explain how to be heard than Gary V. in Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook? Being heard isn't the same as attaining longevity, giving your story legs, becoming Contagious. Once you master broadcasting your brand story, there is always a risk of missteps...really loud, potentially devastating missteps. Read QR Codes Kill Kittens as preventative medicine.
