The entries were submitted, the books were read, the shortlists determined, and we are now ready to announce the category winners of the 2013 800-CEO-READ Business Book Awards! In the Management category... Richard Sheridan's Joy, Inc.: How We Built a Workplace People Love from Portfolio is our pick.

"This journey to joy is personal. It has to be. You want a job or an organization that brings you joy. You want to enjoy that 'good kind of tired' at the end of the day, knowing you made your life just a little bit better today. ... You'll start to see joy, feel joy, and almost touch joy within our entire team. ... There's a unified purpose and a way to deliver it. Now nothing seems impossible." Joy, Inc, page 245

We all want a healthy and happy atmosphere at work. This book shows how Menlo Innovations built just that for their employees, and how the rest of us can do the same. Beyond simple management tactics, the book gets into the core intricacies of emotion, personality, and skills, revealing qualities of a shared belief system that everyone could work from--to the point that some employees may even joke they no longer need to be paid. To revisit the runners-up, check out our Management shortlist announced last week.

(Our top award for The Best Business Book of 2013 will be announced in early January. Stay tuned!)
